Bordeaux and Bandol

  • 1982 Château Blaignan - France, Bordeaux, Médoc (6/27/2014)
Not particularly deep or complex but fresh and quite pleasant. Starts off with plenty of capsicum and pepper. There are some chocolate notes as it breathes and a suggestion of cassis with further air. It has nice balance and proportion.
  • 1970 Château de Pez - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe (6/21/2014)
At first there’s some mushroomy cellar stink coupled with capsicum and sweet tobacco. It breathes up nicely and there are cassis and raspberry fruits. Tannins have all but melted away and it is quite chocolatey in the mouth.
  • 1997 Château Pradeaux Bandol - France, Provence, Bandol (6/19/2014)
Smells sweaty and meaty and has a core of black fruits threaded with liquorice. There is some earthy development and the wine is muscular and quite savoury. It is chunky and still has firm tannins.
  • 1996 Château Léoville Barton - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (6/17/2014)
Bretty as all f*ck. Struggled to finish half a glass.

Hate to hear that about the LB. I have one btl I’m saving to open in 2017.
