Bordeaux 2022

My bad, read it wrong.

But to the second part of my last post, just minor releases in the queue. Clinet is due out in like 3 weeks, which is forever from now in EP terms.

Yeah - I suspect the first growths want to get some data on how things are selling so they can work out how to price

My better guess is that they want to make sure they are pricing accordingly for the vintage.

They will probably try to raise their prices inline with how the seconds price out.

I would be surprised to see any first growth under £3000/6 in bond, personally. And that’d be only a modest increase on 21

Probably a little farther north. My guess is these will be 550GBP+ for retail.

yeah, 15% on 2021 should be like… £3350+ i think? /6

I am still in France and a bit behind in seeing these futures come out, but your Wine.com futures link… That 2022 Leoville Barton at $93 stands out as a helluva QPR in my book. Also the Langoa Barton at $50. I think both are standouts at those prices. If only I did not have to give up my money for 2.5 years.

I bought both of these

I understand not wanting to pay for something for 2.5 years but we’re also not likely drinking these wines for another 10-15 or longer so its a loan and a gamble at the same time having not tasted what we are buying during EP. TW is ok with the 50% down but then you get surprise charges to your card in 2 years when that wine finally arrives. I do a small mix of WDC and TW so as to not have everything charged up front when I do buy EP.

Cheval Blanc and Leoville Barton sold out at TW.

Does Cheval Blanc normally offer second tranche?

I believe some merchants got a “second tranche” from Cheval Blanc soon relative to the release date, but that’s long gone by now (and more expensive). I’ve seen it suggested that about a third of the volume was kept back for ex-library releases, though

There was definitely a second tranche, whether the negociants were sending out a trial balloon to gauge the market or the chateau releasing more based on the same reasoning. The first tranche must have been tiny because it was sold out almost immediately; and the second was considerably more expensive.

Cheval, as wine of the vintage (just plain score wise; 11 highest/perfect scores out of 13 critics I track), is the one wine you have to buy EP this season. It will be at least 20% if not 40% more expensive once in the bottle. Like so often with Cheval

I found this tasting story from a CT user quite insightful.

Contrary to most, he found many wines that were too ripe and/or show alcohol.

Alcohol heat (varying degree) mentioned in tastings notes of: Canon la Gaffeliere, Conseillante, Poyferre, Talbot, Pichon Lalande, Cantenac Brown, Rauzan Segla, Canon, Petit Village, Pedesclaux.

Not that he would be an authority like some critics are, but some wine drinkers are just more sensitive than others re alcohol (and/or have a lower tolerance for ripeness). If you are more on the sensitive side (like me), this is a reminder, that’s probably not too wise to go too deep En Primeur (and rather wait to taste them in bottle).

I am seeing Grand Puy Lacoste 2022 at 68,5-69,0 pre-tax in Europe.

Does anyone have the data of the EP price of this wine for 2021? I think this one may be indicative of the price trends on the left bank for this year…

It’s 17% up on 21 and the same as 2016. The latter is still available at EP price. I think I would be tempted regardless by the 2022, particularly the special « Variation Case » which has 1 double mag, 2 mags and 4 bottles.

Fwiw it’s not easy to pull out but all the historic sales data should be on my site above, look at each vintage score card and if the wine is on the livex grid, it’ll have the release price too.

Going through my merchant’s emails both 2021 and 2020 GPL were €360 for 6 ex VAT

We all have our own taste. And I can promise you there are people on this board that will not like, let alone hate 2022.

Not knowing the poster, have they ever tasted Bordeaux barrel samples before? Or barrel samples at all? Is Bordeaux a wine region they are familiar with?

Of course, you might personally know the poster and their tasting history.
