Bordeaux 2021

PLL - you should be able to buy it ~$160 - $165

Oh this is so ironic, Westgarth Wines who usually has the highest priced in the US, has this for $166.50 which is the lowest price in the US. Next lowest is $175

Pichon Baron was released today in the UK for the equivalent of about $136. I have not seen any US offers yet, but should be around $140.

European Wine Resource offered it for $137. Their PLL was $175 so I expect there will be lower offers.

Not naming it?

Anyone any idea about which producers of whites use DIAM in Bordeaux?

What is that?

When you order through JJ Buckley, they assign you a concierge of sorts and you become a private client (you get emails with special discounts). You can ask for any bottle they have listed to be ā€œre-pricedā€ through them, and it is almost always a bit cheaper than the listed discount when you purchase via email through the concierge. If you aren’t already a client, someone here with an account can refer you, and both you and they get a $50 credit. You can PM me or someone else who is already a client for a referral.

Wow, had no idea this was a thing, thank you!

Sorry long days. The wine that I was referring to is Les Carmes Haut Brion. There are of course a handful of others but that one is the standout for me.

Carmes HB out this morning, almost similar price as last year. This was my first buy of the 2021 EP campaign, might be the only.
Calon should arrive soon today, maybe tbd depending on price, but I’m not holding my breath.

Is anyone buying any whites? I’m interested in Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc and Chevalier Blanc but I’ve never bought whites EP before.

my general feet is that outside of the biggest names they’re not really worth it EP - cant comment on the particular vintage, though, as it does seem (IIRC) to be a very good vintage for whites?

It sold out almost immediately at Farr, so it seems like you’re not the only one that bit. But the 19 is still available for less. And the 2017 is available for 27% less… I have a couple bottles and will give it a taste before deciding whether to just go deep in 2017 instead. Regardless, Carmes is stylistically unique and one that I love, so I’ll probably buy to keep the vertical going. I had a 2018 a couple weeks ago that was just beautiful - and just 13.5% alcohol - a minor feat for the year.

Yeah the whites are excellent although I am not a SB fan - but Pavilion Margaux Blanc is excellent but at $300… SHL is very good as well.

Carmes since their turnaround has seen ~40% - 60% proce increases and continues to be a property on the rise.

This is one that actually may make sense - hearing from several people who have tasted this that it’s sort of an outlier in that 2021 may actually be a step up from prior vintages (which were also strong) - I’m likely to bite as well…first EP 2021 (and maybe only) purchase

Yeah, same logic for me, it’s both an interesting and tasty wine, and one which is a good investment at first tranche pricing.
In France, no way to find Carmes HB 19 at a lower price than 2021, it’s roughly 170/175€ (duty paid).

Hmm, maybe that’s a signal that I need to add more 2019 Carmes HB? There’s still several merchants in the US selling Carmes HB for <$120 USD, with a local merchant at $108.

must… stay… strong… no more 2019 … must… resist!! (dammit… picked up 3 more… such a failure).

…and I grabbed the final 2 at $108. I had 3 out of 5 in my basket and I was told there were only 2 left by the time I purchased. Nice grab!

Bordeaux market / secondary prices in France are really shit in general though. For bordeaux, the wine is readily available, you’ll find good opportunities in ā€œFoire aux Vinsā€ (once or twice a year, huge sales and sometimes nice discounts on wines from big hypermarket chains) which usually made EP campains pretty senseless in recent years.
But for more niche wines (such as Carmes HB), availability will be limited and prices will be higher. Often, I’ll find big differences between UK and US merchants vs. France, it’s pretty annoying
