Bollinger Grand Annee - '02 or '99?

I’d like to pick up a bottle of Bollinger Grand Annee for an upcoming celebration, and would like a bottle of Bollinger Grand Annee to pop. For a relatively near drinking window, which vintage - '99 or '02 - would you recommend, and why?

Go for the RD.

I think he should stop piking and just step up to the VV.

Good point.

Can I get in on the “recommend a choice that you didn’t list” fun?

The 1996 Grand Annee is just spectacular

Brett Favre.

But seriously, do you have any thoughts on rising alcohol levels?

Having just drunk my last bottle, I can concur with Neal’s recommendation. But where to buy more with confidence re: storage?

Wow - glad I asked.

So are we! [berserker.gif]

02, easy choice for me, indeed 00 over 99.

02 Grande Annee - easy choice though I like both.

Just curious. I have some '99s; not as good as '02 or needs more time?

Mark,

1999 has drank well since release and is a very nice Grande Annee; same goes for the 2000 - I would be happy with either. It probably isn’t fair to compare it to the 2002 as the 2002 is stellar and the best Grande Annee since the 88 and 90.

Brad,

Thanks again for your comments, as the Grand Annee is the ‘current’ vintage it is actually cheaper right now than the 1999 in NY, so I guess I will be buying/drinking some 02 next week.

Grapes the Wine Co in North White Plains had the 02 GA at an awesome price. Not sure if he has any more…

Popped a 2002 a week or so ago and it was magnificent from the first glass to last. I don’t see any reason to opt for the 1999 over the 2002 unless that year holds a special significance.

I don’t think either of those are rare enough or highly rated enough.

Unless he has raised his prices recently, there are a great many shops with a lower price on the 02

Wine Club in Santa Ana had some 96 Grand Annee for $130 last week when I was in there picking up a shipment.
