Blown away by some recent winery visits (Macdonald, Smith Madrone, Keenan, Hanzell, Repris)

Thank you Todd! Wonderful to meet you and Jen. We will open an aged Cab next time for sure! Possibly one from the '16 Vintage as well! I appreciate the kind words on Hanzell and look forward to seeing you all again soon.

By the way, folks, Jason just told me some big news…

I got some Hanzel pinot from the 70s we should drink todd

We should, for sure.

We’ll be out there in June and are following in some of your footsteps.

Thanks for the notes from the trip, Todd!!!

I have never had anything from the places you visited, aside from a very young Chardonnay from Hanzell.

The whites from Smith-Madrone (not detracting from the merit of the reds) are supposed to be legendary. Your notes add to this impression. I am also glad you visited Repris, a winery that doesn’t get much attention here.

Thanks for the great write up. I’m still in the newbie stage and learning what my preferences are/trying to broaden the types of wines I drink. However, I agree with you, once I get more experienced it would be nice to focus on a smaller group of producers that consistently make excellent wine instead of jumping around and often getting disappointed. I hope I can get out to Napa again soon and visit these wineries. Also, it sounds like our wives have similar drinking profiles. [cheers.gif]

Thanks for the notes. In particular, I agree with your thought of joining the Keenan reserve club. I did a couple years ago, and it is fairly unusual for “clubs” in that you are not required to buy volume- just a six pack of their 3 reserve wines, at a very reasonavbe cost. Did I me tion great wine?
