Blessed are the Cheesemakers

Cheesus is the reason for the season.

My favorite Christmas gifts this year have been a new Vinturini, a gift card to my favorite wine shop, and the following chunks of stinky goodness:

Primosale Pecorino Fresco
Herve Monts Tomme des Bois Noirs
St. Agur Blue
Chimay a la Biere
Cowgirl Creamery Pierce PT
Cypress Grove Midnight Moon
d’Affinois
Rogue Creamery Rogue River Blue

Life is good.

Any pairing recommendations for any of these?
Anyone else enjoying some good cheese over the holidays?

I love d’Affinois, probably one of the best widely available double creme cheeses around. I love to spread this on a sliced crusty french baguette and pair it with a hearty bottle of champagne or a solid bottle of chardonnay.

Which Affinois is it? We prefer Sauternes or similar with the goat and sheep versions and we don’t very often get the cow version.

They only make two that I am aware of, the original and then one with herbs in it.

This is the one I am referring to.

Here and in SoCal we got goat, sheep, a mix of sheep & cow, and cow; though they are in smaller packages than the one you showed. Each has a picture of the animal(s) from whose milk the cheese was made.

We’ve been enjoying this:

I assume that you are referring to not just cheese makers but to any producers of dairy prodcuts?

Dick, yes, the one with the cow on the label is what we ate last night.

My sister turned me on to the St. Agur bleu at Thanksgiving - she served them with these little, round dark brown wine crackers that had a hint of sweetness in the cracker, and that was one hell of a tasty combination. I had them with Zinfandel, but I liked the cheese enough that I think I would enjoy it with any number of wines.

Whole Foods has it for $10.99/lb this week. Cheap these days (usually $15/lb).

Another awesome cheap cheese id at Trader Joe’s - raw cheddar @$4.99/lb - unpasteurised, which is hard to find in US and never found at this price point.

Gregory: Could you be quiet, please? (to Mr. Cheeky) What was that?

C: I don’t know… I was too busy talking to big nose.

Man: I think it was “Blessed are the Cheesemakers.”

Mrs. Gregory: What’s so special about the cheesemakers?

G: It’s not meant to be taken literally. Obviously it refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.
