Tonight’s supper, on a generally cloudy, cool, and periodically rainy day, was a black bean soup - black beans cooked in a rich vegetable broth with onion and garlic; when done, 1/3 of the beans were puréed with some of the cooking liquid and added back to the rest with some chipotle chile and more garlic. Carollee had hers with a thin slice of lemon topped with sour cream; mine was plain. We also had a green salad - Mr. G’s Farmers’ market greens, dressed with a Champagne vinaigrette - onion powder, celery seed, SI Salad Herbs, and SI Chipotle Seasoning; and Tuscan EVOO and Champagne Vinegar. It was all enjoyed with a 2001 Windwalker Sierra Foothills Zinfandel - fill an 1/8 inch below the cork; barely colored cork; deep ruby color; ripe berry fruit, with some hotness in nose & flavors; spicy berry mid-palate with some hotness initially, but not so much with the food (it was 15.3% alcohol); with a medium ripe berry fruit finish. It was quite nice with the rich soup.
