Big News: Coppola Buys Inglenook Brand, Lures Bascaules From Chateau Margaux

I think you’re right and I was just not reading very closely. At any rate, fun history lesson. [cheers.gif]

In theory the J.J. Cohn (Scarecrow) vineyard was never part of the Inglenook estate even though they sourced fruit from it. It was part of the wines but never part of the estate since it was owned by the Cohn’s and not the Daniels.

True, but to put together the property that was the backbone of Inglenook, you have to buy the JJ Cohn vineyard as it was 85 acres of BDX varieties, that were in all the Inglenook greats, albeit purchased fruit. And out of the 85 acres, Bret Lopez got 24 or 25, can’t remember, and they were all Cabernet Sauvignon.

So once again semantics at play.

Same can be said about the epic charbono vineyards in Calistoga which made some bad Ass Nook wines in the mid century. I believe that the Cohn estate was planted under the instruction of John Daniel.
I’m guessing that there is going to be an Inglenook Cask type blend which will sell at a higher pice than Thr Rubicon estate. The coolest scenario would be fro Rubicon to source from Napanok, Cohn, and their estate vineyards and make an awesome new Ingelnook.
