Vieux Chateau Certan is a memorable non-first growth I’ve had.
Took the advice above and picked up a lovely 2005 Langoa Barton. Great recommendation, Ed!
“Consistent with many other CT notes, this is surprisingly youthful looking. The cork was only wet ~1mm and it probably would have held solid for another 50 years at least! The wine is purple throughout without a hint of bricking. Despite that tight cork, and youthful appearance, this smells like Bordeaux with a bit of age on the nose- red and black fruits, some leather and tobacco, but smoothed down by a bit of age. This is a suave smooth operator, not an exuberant child or teenager. The palate confirms the nose, a wonderful balance between young flavors of youth with developed leather tobacco notes. There is some of that classic cedar and cigar, along with fresh baked bread, though a bit in the background. Tannins resolved. Overall integrated and a very pleasant drink. Will last for 10 years longer at least, but is at a perfect for me.”

Thank you, Noah! I am glad you were able to source some Langoa and enjoyed it! I have received far more advice on this board than I have given, and it is a great feeling to be able to assist others! Cheers.
