My head went right to zin. But preparation of the stew will make a difference depending on richness, etc.

Agree with the Syrah recommendations. Partial to Northern Rhone, myself, but I’ve had some domestic that is smoking with lamb.

Why not a New Zealand Syrah in a Northern Rhone style. I really like the Craggy Range Block 14 2007 (the top end Le Sol is more Californian in style).
