I’ll be there for Berserkerfest 1.5, and any other debauchery that might develop.
So, how about some hints on lodging ‘on a budget’?? I suppose I’ll need to find lodging close to the activities, and get intimate with the mass transit…btw, I’m traveling solo.
I’d suggest that you check out Priceline.com. I’ve gotten some pretty sick deals in NYC (Le Parker Meridien for $115 during my last visit) so it is worth the effort. http://www.betterbidding.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is probably worth checking out if you’ve never used Priceline before…
Be sure and post your findings Todd.
Todd, let me know what you find, there’s still a good chance I’ll be there to.
Looking forward to meeting you, Todd.
For lodging, I’ve been hearing about good deals on Priceline. Mass transit is easy. You’ll catch on with no problems.
Brad
Sounds good.
I don’t even know WHERE to stay, in terms of location/proximity to events…
Everything is easy to get to from Manhattan. Just stay in mid-town somewhere. Most of the hotel deals seem clustered around Times Square or Chelsea. I’m not a fan of all the hubub of Times Square, but it’s centrally located.
The cost of staying anywhere near Manhattan is rather extreme…to get this approved on the family budget, I’m gonna have to work to find the deals!
Ah but when you do please post dear chap… ![thankyou [thankyou.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/d/df165fe9c1593d19166ae7e1ffe5e272089cc07b.gif)
I’ve stayed all over the place. midtown central, west & east, upper east, Murray Hill. Chelsea, next to the UN…dang near everywhere except downtown incredibly enough. You’re pretty much good to go just about anywhere. As you find places you might throw out some hotel names and see if anybody has feedback. That usually works for me. I’ll do the same in return when I start looking shortly.
Priceline is a good suggestion. I just got a killer deal in Philly and I know Wilfred has been getting good deals in NYC. I probably won’t be here from the 7th on so if you want me to organize something for the 5th let me know.
Maybe Wilfred can let me know his secrets. A friend of mine said he can get me into the Yale Club, and he says it is ‘reasonable’, but I’m guessing not as much so as the recession-priced hotels dying for occupancy. Plus, they require business casual, and I hate things with buttons!
I arrive at 8:30 on the 5th, so I don’t think that will be a possibility, even though I’ll be up for a late night soiree, since it will be only 5:30 my time!
Yeah, that doesn’t sound likely. Oh well…next time.
Todd, do you have an upper limit per night you’d like to not exceed? Most of the decent places I’m seeing online are pretty close to the $300.00 a night plus or minus range.
Yeah but usually if you do a Priceline bid you can get a better deal, or just calling the hotels up directly and asking for discounts helps. Hotel occupancy rates are still high in NYC but that’s because they’ve dropped their prices and have been more flexible with deals.
What’s your max per night budget? And staying in Manhattan is the most convenient due to subway/bus/cab/pedicab/walking/crawling connections.
WAY less than that, if I want to return home, that is.
Todd,
Did you ever find or book anything? I’m probably going to start looking in earnest this afternoon since I have the air travel squared away.
Todd, check out VRBO. I saved over $1000 / week instead of a hotel.
Subway system is great out there as well. And go to the WTC site…you will be moved.
I’m roving around, staying on floors, guest rooms, wherever people will have me. The city, the 'burbs, even a night in Jersey!
