BerserkerDay 16 Master Thread (January 31, 2025) RECORDS SET! WE DID IT AGAIN! šŸ˜²

Amazing!

I forgot to suggest/mention in the post above, but Iā€™m trying to figure out exactly who/where to share this incredible story, as it really is.

I emailed Tom Wark in case he has interest, and Iā€™ve considered Wine Business Monthly or Wine Industry Advisor, but Iā€™d rather notify more buyers who woudl have interest in direct sales/chat with our small producers, not ā€˜big business wine industryā€™ behemoths. Only other one I can think of is the other big wine forum Reddit. If anyone frequents Reddit wine forums, share the news there! Share the link to this thread, or to that specific post within it, which I think would be preferable. Anyone? (link below so itā€™s handy to copy/share)

This is so awesome! Retail in general is a bit depressed but especially wine/spirits. Quite the accomplishment folks! :berserker: :berserker: :berserker:

Plus the word needs to be spread on the generosity of the community as seen in the FU for Fire Victims Raffle or @Michel_D opening up his cellar and offering Magnums for Fire Relief. Berserkers are really stepping up and doing their part in trying times.

And we just got our last set of numbersā€¦total is now $2,194,493.49!!!

Thanks Todd for the $'s and eyeball stats.

Awesome to see a great turnout and solid sales. Todd, is there a link where contributing sellers can see more detail?
If not, it would be super useful (to sellers) to know more than the total and average per offer (I assume you divided the total by 100 for the average, didnā€™t subtract out coffee/beef/leathergoods etc.? (I think you wrote $21.9k average per wine offer).
Former financial analyst here, I think many would love to see stratified results, with how many orders/$$$$ in ranges, wherever they naturally fallā€¦with order qty and dollars
0-$5k?
5k-10k?
10-$20
30-50?
50-100?
Or more if easy, is there a google spreadsheet? Iā€™ll spin the data for yā€™all. Maybe I would divide between ā€œnewbieā€ and ā€œrepeatā€ --I love analyzing data!!

Itā€™s painful to read that some wonderful new brands/wineries with nice offers felt like they failed when they were only one-half of 1 percent. Thatā€™s over $10,000!!! Thatā€™s AWESOME for a first-time or really any offer.

From I think 13 years doing this now, and talking to my buyers/customers, people like to grab several offers to total up to a fun ā€œBerserker Cellar Setā€ to explore for the year. So, sometimes your FIRST orders are small folks, say the 3pak flyer, then the FOLLOWING year, they know the wine and grab the 6pak or caseā€¦

My own orders/sales have grown every year until I tweaked the OFFER (and didnā€™t take credit cards) to do something intentionally differentā€¦ BIG orders, fewer shipments. FedEx exceptions make my life miserable.

Also, as already mentioned, if Flannery Beef is $300k, for example, makes a big difference to the averages.

Lastly, hate to say this, butā€¦ to everyone who conscientiously reconciled all their orders and sales to collections and gave accurate/honest numbers, I suspect if anyone fudges, itā€™s to the UPSIDE, not the downside. Hopefully not, and hopefully at least a consistent fudge factor each year. As far as I know, Todd does NOT only allow the higher sales wineries to return. He gets it that buyers start out small - especially when a wine doesnā€™t have pro scores or CT notes yet, etc. THATā€™S WHY YOUā€™RE HERE sacrificing your marginā€“to get your wine on the tastebuds of prolific CT note writers

If yā€™all want help sorting/slicing the data, this former financial analyst is on it. Just send the google doc without winery/brand names.

Thank you to all the sellers who put the deals up!!
Now comes the fun of shipment exceptions --good luck out there ā€¦

Tom Wark is the best.

This reminds me, do we no longer crown a King - the top buyer? That used to be fun! Or do I just not know how to find the thread?

Havenā€™t done it in a couple years, probably mostly because itā€™s become such a behemoth! This year, the goal for the BerserkerDay MVPs are the producers! That was the goal, and it was achieved!

Just fielded a request of someone who wants to NOT see the BerserkerDay posts in the ā€˜latestā€™ or default feed of posts from all forums, so, for those who might want that, for whatever reasonā€¦click the Bell icon upper right of the BerserkerDay 16 forum and choose ā€˜mutedā€™

Banning them is always an option!

On a related matter, did @John_Simpson participate this year? I donā€™t recall seeing his name anywhere

Hello All: Yes, I did participate this year; just keeping a low(er) profile but still bought my usual amountā€¦

Thatā€™s why John gets the Lifetime Achievement Award

Thanks Todd. But for me, it was a bittersweet BD because several of my long-time favorite producers closed their doors, including FrannyBeck and Lagier Meredith. Iā€™ll miss their offerings because they fit my budget and taste. They get my vote for a Lifetime Achievement Award!
