Tonight’s ‘light’ supper was Progresso Vegetable Soup enhanced with beef stock, garlic, and "Herbbes de Provence’. We also had more of our Xmas rib roast, thinly sliced in sandwiches with horseradish and mustard. This was enjoyed with a 1999 Ravenswood ‘Icon’ (73% Syran, 16% Mourvedre, 11% Grenache) - noticibly lighter than the '97 from a few nights ago; pleasant nose & flavors of red & black fruits; balanced light mid-palate of adequate acidity and spicy fruit; and a medium soicy fruit finish. Music tonight was early Mozart Piano Sonatas, bright and fun.
Then for dessert, while watching ‘Gone in Sixty Seconds’ (via TiVo), we had St. Andre cheese, jarred figs softened with Amaretto, a 375ml of 2001 Gruard Larose Sauternes. The combination was very enjoyable; the Sauternes was a little richer than the last one we had.
