A while back I posted asking about Beaune recommendations and I appreciate the response. I had a great time and made it to several of the restaurants suggested including Caves Madeleine, Loiseau des Vignes, and Ma Cuisine. My wine visits were Drouhin, Jadot, Bouchard and Maison Ilan (I posted on the latter last week). A highlight was a hike down the Route des Grands Crus from Gevrey to Nuits, followed by the visit to Maison Ilan. I have my trip summary up on google docs now; it’s a bit long but you can look at the pictures if it’s boring:
We were in Burgundy this summer and visited Jadot and Maison Ilan, among other places. I am surprised Jadot compared their 2010s to their 2000s. From what I tasted at these two addresses and elsewhere (we also had 2010s at Mugneret-Gibourg and Trembley), to me this seems like a superstar vintage. John Gilman seems to agree. Glad you had a great time. I love visiting Burgundy.
Howard, I just saw your reply. For some reason tapatalk doesn’t like to show all the new posts and I miss some.
I have also been puzzled about the comment on 2010s, having seen the praise from Burghound and Gilman. However, both Jadot and Drouhin seemed to think the real stars in 2010 would be the whites (at Drouhin, I think this was more generally about '10 and '11).
At the same time, what was said at Jadot about the '10 reds was very positive and maybe ambiguous. He may have just meant that they would drink well at 10 years like the '00s, not that they otherwise would be like that vintage.
good read. thanks for sharing.
