That’s funny, my mental rule of thumb when I started buying was to try any cru from about $15-$22. I’ve only seen a few half bottles, and they’re terrible values-- $14 for a 375 vs $18 for the same wine in 750.
Jim, while I haven’t had Bouland’s wine with any age on them, his 08s and 09s are among my faves and if you haven’t tried them, you might want to, if only to keep your list current :>).
I was kind of surprised when the OP said there were very few threads on Beaujolais on this board. I wondered if I had been dreaming up all the Beaujolais threads I thought I had been reading.
For the last three or four years, Cru Bojo has been at the top of my list. To “get it”, there must be an adjustment of expectations. I crave the acidity and the crunchies. There’s a certain juxtaposition of fruitiness and dryness that you can’t get anywhere else save maybe top Lambrusco. I’ve been chasing after the various Lapierre, Bouland, Foillard, Breton, and Descombes bottlings. I basically let Chambers St. guide me along. I would offer that it’s rather surprising that cru beaujolais gets the attention on this Board that is has been receiving as of late.
