Battle of the $50 California Wines

I bought the 2013 Chappellet signature tonight. Paid $62 with tax. I think it is pretty well made but im not thinking this is in my wheelhouse. Generally i like the more over ripe fruit bombs. I think this is more darker fruits like blackberry and actually very smooth tannins. Im used to a more harsh tannic structure maybe. Anybody know how much pritchard hill is in this bottle?

Anyways, im still looking for those $40-$60 Napa cabs that better fit my flavor profile of rivers marie, myriad style, but this is a nice wine and i would recommend it. For me i would rate it about a 90.

Enfield Haynes Vineyard Syrah

Good call.

Here ya go - mountain fruit bombs that I’ve recommended in other threads:

Frias Family Vineyard Spring Mtn from 2009, 2010, or 2012
Mt Brave from 2010

Arnot-Roberts Clary Ranch Syrah
Bedrock
Carlisle

In addition to the already mentioned, I would add Jaffurs.

Robert Keenan and Turnbull also come to mind.

If not limited to ca, lots of Oregon chard and Pinot can be had for less than $50.

I’ll give them a look see.

Any red from Nicora. I’m surprised I didn’t see that producer mentioned already.

And Geyserville and Lytton Springs
