For an upcoming trip we have a two hour gap between a tasting at GD Vajra and an 8:00 dinner in the area. I’d love to hear any suggestions for a nice spot for us to sit and enjoy a glass of local red in the Barolo/La Morra area.
Vinoland was raised in a different thread and it seems like they have a location in Barolo but it seems like it might be mainly retail? La Vite Turchese looks interesting but do they only do tasting flights booked in advance? (and website says tasting end at 5:30).
It really depends on the day, since some of them are open later on Th-Sat than other days. There’s Easy Cosi (also has good food) and Barolo and Friends.
Barolo Bar in Monforte is great, La Terrazza da Renza in Castiglione Falletto is a favorite but they may not be open that late depending on what season you’re visiting.
I was on a Backroads bike trip in Piedmont a couple years ago and we had dinner in Montforte. Originally, we went to a fancier restaurant and didn’t get waited on at all for about 40 minutes and we left and went to the Barolo Bar. We ordered a pizza ,salad, and a bottle of Barolo and sat outside at a two top in the street. There was a band plaing down the street that we could hear. Lovely evening and it cost less than 100 euro. Casual place but a good place to enyoy wine.
Best one we visited was La Vite Turchese in Barolo. Selection, knowledge and all you want right in the heart of Barolo with many of the local favorites.
La Vite Turchese would be my suggestion as well. Amazing shop if you are looking to buy any bottles to take with you as well. It was a highlight for us from our last trip. You can probably email them to ask any questions you might have about timing.
I will share here what we chose do do and it was the best decision of the visit: I hired Valerie Quintanilla’s tour company for two days shuttling around to wine ors I had asked her about and some she recommended like Burzi.
We were treated to 2 wonderful days of sights, wines and food. Our driver Luca was well versed and translated when needed. As we purchased wine he kept a record and Valerie collected later in the week and arranged to ship our 6 cases. Such a pleasure to be unencumbered by the road and the ‘carry’.
We had some amazing lunches and were always informed about the little nuances we would have surely missed if I did the driving. We stayed in the town of Barolo specifically to be able to do things locally on foot. Visiting Bartolo Mascarello and Scarzello was great and within yards of our apartment. La Vite Turchese was a 5 minute walk. So great. Such an awesome trip.
We are doing it again in 2026, this time in Barbaresco.
