bacon of the month?

I’m think about joining a bacon club. Any favorites? Zingermans should be good, but Nueske & Broadbent, brands I already know, account for 1/3 of the shipments. Thepignextdoor.com has a heritage club with Duroc & Berkshire bacons. Any experience with them? Others?

Thanks,
Rich

My sister and brother gave me Zingerman’s club for Xmas. Just got my first shipment…Nueske’s Considering that I didn’t pay for it, it is great but the prices seem kinda steep. I would just ask around and order direct from the source.

Duskie’s Black Pig Bacon

That’s Zingerman’s, reliably good to great products at reliably high prices. Their Braodbent bacon is roughly 3x the price from the maker. I think I’ll make my own club, starting wth some Nueske’s from a local shop and some Broadbent’s from http://www.broadbenthams.com/. (Be warned, Broadbent’s is not for the salt averse.)

By the way, check out their $280/kg jamon Iberico pepperoni stick at Ibérico Bellota Cured Pork Loin for sale. Buy online at Zingerman's Mail Order. Gourmet Gifts. Food Gifts..

Thanks,
Rich

A recent bacon thread…

Thanks for the tip. I had not looked at this thread because I want sliced, not slab bacon. Looks like most, if not all, those providers sell it both ways. NC Smokehouse is one I have not heard about and will put it on the list.

We had Nueske’s this morning. Really fine but I suspect there is better stuff out there. I gave it to my wife and 7 year old without any mention of its pedigree. They had no unsolicited response of amazement. When they have Flannery rib caps, strip steaks, or hamburgers, or bellota pork they do rave without knowing the meat’s pedigree.

Neuske’s bacon, goose fat biscuits, and scrambled eggs with ghost pepper salt for breakfast. Not a bad start. Skiing this afternoon, then alder-smoked salmon for supper, followed by Torbreck Runrig with assorted cheeses from Artisinal during the NFL playoffs. Should be a good day.

Rich,

That sounds good! I like Neuske’s but it is a bit delicate/lighter in taste than I prefer. I like Benton’s as well, but as Gene mentioned in the linked thread it’s on the other extreme of being super smoky. The North country to me has the right amount of ‘pork’ flavor balanced with just enough wood/smoke.
