I have heard, from folks, that North Country Bacon is pretty damn good.

Tonight I was in my local Hannaford’s. The cheapest bacon they have is store brand, $2.89/lb.

So I perused the shelves a bit higher and came across this…

$3.99/lb Applewood smoked, maple cured, center cut bacon. Made by…North Country Smokehouse!

I’m assuming it’s not really the identical stuff you get direct, but is is really 2x better than what I am getting at the supermarket?

Good bacon and Flannery meats are worth the cost.

Wait, wait. I went to the bacon website. $10 per pound + on bulk applewood smoked bacon. It better rival Flannery.

We get great bacon at our local butcher (1 block walk) for about $5 per pound…pretty happy!

Precisely my point, as I am paying $3.99 off the shelf in the supermarket!

They have a thicker cut smoked bacon at the meat counter that they sell unpackaged by weight. I am going to follow up with the butcher next time and find out the source for that bacon. It is only $5.99/lb, still cheaper than the $9.25lb + shipping off the site!

Still my favorite is the Applewood smoked bacon from Trader Joes. My wife picks up some ‘fancy’ bacon now and again, but it never compares…

Too much talk about bacon. We were going to have quesadillas tonight for a light dinner. Now I’m going to have to have Carrie leave out the salsa on mine and add bacon bits.

Petit Sirah? Syrah? Zin? The bacon makes it tough to choose a wine for dinner.

Flannery has some sick bacon he gets from a guy in the midwest. Something like 7.99 a lb? Really really good

Have found “The Butcher’s Fancy” in Yonkers NY. Irish butcher with best sausages “bangers” and the sweetest most flavorful Irish bacon I have found in the US (and believe me I was looking.) Both are $6:99 a pound I believe. Highly recommended.

I had some bacon & eggs this morning. This North Country stuff I got is the real deal. The slices are 10 to a pound, a little smaller than the stuff you can get at the meat counter loose. But for $3.99/lb, I’ll take it all day long.

There are no Hannafords supermarkets in Westchester. Only up here in Putnam and Dutchess.
