I might throw out there:
Le Marquis de Calon Segur
Chasse-Spleen
Corbin St. Emillion
Labegorce
Ormes de Pez

I liked the Chasse Spleen, but honestly another case of Cantemerle might be the best bet.
Sticking to under $50 today:
Meyney
Cantemerle
Sociando
Prieure Lichine
La Lagune
It’s hard to go wrong with 2016 - all the wines mentioned are good bets, to which I would add Marquis de Terme, Clos du Marquis, Lynch-Moussas and du Glana.
As for Labégorce, well it depends on what you like. Along with Clos Margalaine, it’s the only Left Bank 2016 I’ve tried so far which doesn’t share the vintage characteristics of the others. Typically, 2016s are crisp, elegant, fresh, precise, so light years from 2009s for example, whereas Labégorce is made in a much lusher style which is not unlike its 2009.
Gloria, Langoa Barton, Latour-Martillac would be on the list for me.
Mind sharing some leads on where to find Lagrange under $50? This would be one of my top choices, too.
InternetWines had it at one point, though they have limited areas they can ship to.
Good thing about the 2016’s is that you only have to wait 10 or so more years to drink and enjoy them
Ah alas Internet Wines is sold out of 16 Lagrange sadly.
I bought a bunch of it from them, 2016 and 2019. I think it was like $45 per bottle, which is just a stupid value.
Yeah I got a 6er of each year from them at pricing in that neighborhood. Lovely. Sadly I missed when they blew out the 19 Laroque at 22 bucks!
I’ve been drinking a fair bit of the 2016 Marquis de Calon and it’s a good suggestion. Not sure how widely available it might still be, but if it can be found it’s enjoyable and characterful.
