Average Vintage (per CT) and Oldest Wine

What is the average vintage of your wine collection and oldest wine? Per CT, mine is 2004.6. My older wines are from 1966, 1976, 1977, and a handful from the 80s.

I know, it is a slow day but CT is just a great tool. The only info that I don’t want to see is purchases for the year.

2005 average with 1970 as the oldest

Average: 2001.6
Oldest: 1834 Madeira and 1900 Vintage Port, Oldest non-fortified: 1947

Average: 1998.5

Right now my oldest bottle is a birth-year wine: 1954.

How am I supposed to get any work done with all of these CT threads lately? It is transfixing for me!

2003.8 average and 1961

Wow! Will you ever drink them?

2004.3 and 1974

Average 2004. Oldest 1945.

Needless to say…my oldest is a birth year wine too…at least until next August. I wonder how many others are storing birth year wines as well.

Next year is 40 for both my wife and I…so it will be gone, but luckily Bern’s will have a few for years to come if I need that 1970 fix. In fact, until recently, they were pouring a 1970 Bordeaux by the glass.

Of course…I must search out some Port for years 50 and 60

I used to have a 1954 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo which was beautiful a few years ago. My only `54 now is a Vallana Spanna.

Oldest non-fortified = 1959 (1959 Huët Vouvray Moelleux 1ère Trie Le Haut-Lieu)

Avg: 2001.4
Oldest: 1936

Average: 2000.5
Oldest: 1834 Barbeito Madeira Malvazia
Oldest dry wine: 1966 Palmer

Hey, you aren’t 50 years old, you’re 55! You are definitely in your 50s. neener

It was a hypo-freakin-thetical. I could have used 60, but I don’t want to be in my 60s! [soap.gif]

1795 Barbieto Terrantez
Non-fortified, bunch of 1959’s; Bordeaux, Sauterne, Germans

1996.4, and I have the same oldest bottle of wine that Eric and several others mentioned, the 1834 Barbeito Malvazia

Just remember…once you get there…being in your 60’s beats the alternative.
