All sounds great but funny enough the Vietnamese sounds delightful lol.
Also returning up on attire. I didn’t plan to walk around in a Jets jersey and baggy jeans. I like to blend in to a degree.
You’ll see lots of NY Yankees gear and not by tourists.
Funny you should say that. A friend passing through noted that, and it didn’t really register.
I’m packing light, might buy half of Etsy I need there. But that’s interesting.
They are tourist cities, so there’s a lot of diversity in terms of dress. The assumption of most people will be that anyone they see who is not behind a till will be a tourist :). So wear what is comfortable if you’re going to be active all day. Though I would counsel against skimpy clothes or attire that is loudly American.
In the restaurants, I generally wore nice jeans and a casual tailored shirt.
A few Vienna/Salzburg recs from our visit a couple years ago:
First - Sudsteiermark wines don’t often make it to the US but the quality is off the charts overall and well worth exploring.
In Vienna:
MAST Weinbistro (https://www.mast.wine/) offered excellent, well-conceived but unpretentious food and an extensive wine list with strengths in Austria and the Jura. I thought pricing was more than fair relative to the quality of dining and service.
Pub Klemo in Margareten is worth a stop for wine lovers - by wine geeks, for wine geeks, with some fascinating older vintages by the glass at incredibly low prices. Maybe one of our favorite stops of the trip. https://www.pubklemo.com/
Haas Beisl, just up Margaretenstraße from Pub Klemo, offered a wonderful traditional Beisl experience and warm hospitality.
In Salzburg, Stiftsbäckerei Sankt Peter is a pretty cool experience - an abbey bakery dating back over 700 years. Excellent bread. I also had a fantastic Debreziner at Matts Wursteleck on Rainerstraße near Schloss Mirabell. Finally, in addition to others’ suggestions, I’d recommend an early-morning walk up the Kapuzinerberg for the stunning views of Hohensalzburg with the Untersberg looming behind.
There’s a lot for me to read up on there, and sounds wonderful. Thank you
Plus had me at Bread
Made me think of this too lol. Off topic, but not, and funny as hell.
