Aubert Pinot release

Hi

What are the thoughts about Aubert Pinot’s ?

Ive read a lot of good things and that they are worth getting if possible, would you buy these above say Kosta, Marcassin etc ?

Thanks

Alan

I buy them but if I had to choose, Id buy kosta and definitely Marcassin first. Great pinots, however, but they need time. They kinda taste like a creamsicle when too young. 2-3 years out I start popping them and then with lots of air.

I dropped Kosta-Browne SVDs in favor of Aubert, but they do need a lot more time than most CA PNs – 5-6 years even with a good decant. (I have not had a Marcassin PN.)

Just received…

Our Fall 2014 wine allocation notice will be sent to you via e-mail and in the form of a mailed card on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Both notifications will include your User ID and Password needed for ordering on our secure website. You may access your allocation, tasting notes and ordering information at that time on our website. This release is for our 2012 Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs and Appellation Chardonnays.

I was under the impression that the pinots were hot purple drank and that the Chards are the true winners of the Aubert portfolio. Feel free to correct me.

Depends on what you like. If you like a KB style it’s great. If you like a different style then it’s not for you.

I might not even get any pinots, might only be chards.

I always imagine the chards being that oaky buttery cali style that i hate

I drank a bottle of the 2007 Reuling Pinot last night. Still very young with that candied fruit type flavor, but matched very well with Korean BBQ. There’s a time and place for just about everything.

I am on the list and buy minimally. Has anyone been up to the estate, as it is now open to Mailing list members to visit and i beleive do tastings?

I opened one of my 11 KB Gaps Crown a few months ago, what a disappointment. I couldn’t get past the heat, even on the second day. I’ll be holding on to these long term; hope the alc integrates because I really couldn’t pick up any tannins or acidity at all. Not good.

I’m no expert on Aubert PN as I only have a few bottles but the Chards I’ve tasted have been really good. I do like the UV-SL pinot but would like to taste the Ritchie and the Sonoma Coast. I say this having not read any TN on the upcoming allocation so I’ll be reading more before purchasing. And if I decide not to purchase, all the better; I’ll pick up some more burgs.

I buy all the chards and none of the pinots. Does not seem to change my chard allocation

No correction necessary.

Are they still running alcohols of 15.9% like the ones I tried a few years ago that tasted like cherry cough syrup?

Yes

Ugh

Some people say they are more structured and burg like some say cough syrup

Clear as mud

It depends on your tolerance for high alcohol levels. I’ve been at blind tastings where for half the room the Aubert Pinot was the least favorite (my group) but for the other half it was the favorite.

To me, big, thick rich fruit like KB (or cough syrup if you prefer the pejorative), but with acid and lots of tannin, hence the need for age. They are balanced in respect to the component parts, but full throttled in each of them. Maybe like a Bonne Marres? IDK. I like them enough, but don’t have much utility for them only because I don’t drink that much pinot. I get KB for the sensual, Rhys for the elegant and RM for the mash-up. That’s enough pinot for me.

From notes on CT, looks like a mixed bag on the pinots. Also, they haven’t been around long enough to know if they’ll mature well. I’ll probably pick up 1-2 bottles, but mostly focus on the chards.

Scott,

I didn’t see any notes on CT For the 12’s

Alan…some are structured, all need time. All are big. I dont think anyone, lover or hater of Aubert would ever say they are Burg like. If anything they are the antithesis of Burgs.
