Assorted T/N: ACV Chard, Robert Craig Affinity Cab Sauv, Havens Bourriquot

  • 2006 Havens Wine Cellars Bourriquot - USA, California, Napa Valley (1/19/2012)
Drank (or tried to drink) this over 2 days. Funky nose that lasted multiple hours. My wife and her friend liked this, not me. Some heat. Around 6 hours, I tasted some cherries, and the funk was gone. On Day 2, the wine was fuller and richer. I wished that Day 2 would have equaled Day 1.
I’m no expert, but this is one to either decant or hold. I’ll wait a minimum of 2 years before I open my next bottle. As is, this may be a good wine to bring to non - Geeks!! My rating is based on 2 days. (87 pts.)

  • 2008 Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyards Chardonnay - USA, California, Napa Valley, Carneros (1/19/2012)
Drank this with ‘upscale’ Chinese food in Greenwich CT. Light yellow color. Some fruit on the nose. Oak. Could I have tasted some cotton candy at 30 minutes?? At 60 minutes in, the wine was smoothing out. I thought the oak was gone, but at 120 minutes, the oak was back. I did taste some apple at this point. Overall, I was disappointed. This bottle was given to me by a friend who loves ACV Chards. I hope he’s happier with his case than I was with my one bottle.

30 minutes after opening, I took the first taste. Purple color that seemed to get darker over 90 minutes. A delicious perfume nose. Some spice on tasting. No tannins. This is a full bodied, smooth wine. I did taste a bit of liquorice at the end. My next bottle sleeps for a few years. Dinner with Jane and Mitch. (93 pts.)
