1987 Château Trotanoy - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol (1/1/2010)
Very musty on the nose. Took at least and hour to blow off. Deep nose with lanolin and printing press (ink and pounded metal.) Broad across the palate with soft textures. More organic notes in the flavors - cured meat fat, evergreen and hints of dried fruits. Medium weight finish with a nice dry down playing across all the elements. Improved then held steady for several hours. Very nice. -
2002 Coche-Dury Bourgogne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc (1/1/2010)
Intense nose with bite and a relax of mineral salt, butter and grilled meat. Upfront acids, mineral/saline. Round middle with Satsuma citrus. Savory caramel on the finish with all the complexity implied. Really subtle dry-down with chypre and a light spice. Nice balanced, light on its feet. Delightful pairing with beef ribs and lobster surf-n-turf riff. -
1983 Maison Leroy Santenay - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay (12/31/2009)
Really pretty nose with dried flowers/dust and dimmed fruit. Started off with anise-y notes and a nice balance of acidic fruit with light structure. In about 15 minutes, picked up generic old-wine/furnance notes and quickly became undrinkable. -
2002 L. Mawby Mille Cuvee 89 - USA, Michigan, Leelanau Peninsula (12/31/2009)
Light, but lovely nose with peach and floral elements. Crisp and bright, Meyer lemon. Clean finish with lemon curd and a touch of bread. Very nice. -
2001 Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru (12/29/2009)
Nice color with clarity and depth. Light on the nose. Lovely upfront of tart cherries, a mineral-esque penetration and slight mature woody note. Pert middle with nice balance. Subtle dry-down with fougere, perfumed fruits and a little acidic bite. A very nice, petite and pretty wine. -
1989 Weingut Baumann Oppenheimer Sackträger Riesling Auslese - Germany, Rheinhessen (12/27/2009)
Nice array of petrol/mineral, pineapple fruits and wax. Light in texture, medium length finish. Overall nice. -
**1993 Bollig-Lehnert Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Auslese ***** - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (12/27/2009)
Sweet apples and gold raisins. Lacking on acidity, but still firm and good length. -
2001 Weingut von Othegraven Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Auslese Ungrafted - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (12/27/2009)
Bright nose with apricots and mineral. Very laser precise and tight with nice acidity, mineral textures and a finish of cold mountain stream water. Really balanced and bright with a great vibe. -
2002 Dönnhoff Schloßböckelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Nahe (12/27/2009)
Mineral-laced lemonade with a cherry-like spike. Nicely crisp but broad on the palate while retaining elegance. Not a lot going on though. Very pretty wine which masks the lack of depth. -
1998 Château Prieuré-Lichine - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (12/31/2008)
Nice nose with earthy notes, a bit of dank wood. Dried currants on the front, but very hollow in the middle and abrupt finish. Aired to a bit of structure with a definite Margaux-ey feel, but still flimsy.
