Are Wine Collectors More Intelligent Than Most?

I think it depends on what wines they choose. neener [stirthepothal.gif]

Reading the Premier Cru thread should dispel any notions of this…

Rudy and company have proven the opposite of what you are saying, no?

Have you ever read the Politics section of this board?

Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son.

Yes!

I would vote, no.

Can you name another hobby where so many aficionados shop based on a two-digit rating system, with fiats regarding quality issued by a handful of ‘experts?’

Maybe only audiophiles are as ignorant, as a group.

Are people who spend thousands on drinking grape juice, or putting a little white ball in a hole, or getting blown around by the wind in a boat, or putting little colored paper stamps in a book, smarter. Passion has nothing to do with IQ, only pleasure.

Where did that Premier Cru thread go?

It takes a vinous genius to justify buying bottles based on whatever the market will bear and regardless of what actual bottle production costs may be–referencing Bordeaux’s First Growths or Burgundy’s Grand Crus from DRC, Leroy, Rousseau, Jayer, etc.

Barry does do stand up sometimes!

The only connection between wine geeks and intelligence is probably via disposable income.
The same is probably true of people who drive expensive sports cars.
Leave us not confuse snobbishness with intelligence.
People who collect wine and people who drive expensive sports cars are not all jerks. But probably more are jerks than the average population.
We are not royalty.
