Araujo hit my email today and I can’t find any posts on the offer. I was wondering if anyone is jumping on this or not. I haven’t been on the Araujo list long so all I see is the 2011 Altagracia so I don’t know if anything else is on offer. I know the 2010 Altagracia was well received but I haven’t heard anything about the 2011. With 2011 being a difficult year I’m somewhat reluctant to spend $110 on Araujo’s second wine. I did love the Syrah I bought though. Any thoughts out there?
I have weaned myself off Araujo-they hit me at the tipping point though I truly love the Eisele estate cab
^^ This. I miss the Sauv Blanc and grappa, too, but not at these price points
Was there any indication that this entire property and label is now owned by Chateau Latour? I assume even though those vintages were produced when the Araujos owned the famed Eisele Vineyard and the Araujo label, the offer would not be coming from them as owners. Because they are no longer involved there. As far as I know, this entire operation changed hands January 1, 2014 - vineyards, dwellings, label, wine on hand - everything.
David -
what are the prices these days? I remember sending you my grappa when i lived in LA - hope you are well.
Jeff
Thanks, Jeff - always appreciated it. I still have a number of the grappa hanging around. I’m not sure what the release prices are - I dropped off the list when the the cab headed north of $200 (even though it’s one of my 2 or 3 favorite vineyards in California).
Nope, not a word. I did not expect them to say much about the sale, but there was no mention of it. I am not pleased that they are charging top tier prices for Altagracia and requiring a 3 bottle purchase as well.
I really love their Syrah with bottle age. Is it on the offer?
No I think that was in the Fall.
Actually, this was mentioned in the email:
This is also a most exciting moment for all of us at Araujo Estate as it marks a new beginning. Today we occasion the very first release since the transition to the Pinault family. With great respect for this unique terroir, our valued followers, and the achievements of Daphne and Bart Araujo, our team will spare no effort as we extend and build upon the legacies of the past.
If I buy this wine, it will mostly be so that I can buy their estate cab later on. I’m sure the Altagracia is great wine, but is it $110 good?
Someone should start a thread about the price we pay as consumers for second wines or wines we don’t really want, just so we can stay current on a mailing list for when the good stuff gets released.
Altragracia was $40 two vintages ago right?

Wow, I must have skipped reading that section as I was lamenting the $330 they want me to spend.
The wine looks like it was priced around $85 in 2007. Last year it was $105 as it managed to garner a 96 point score from our favorite wine critic. Has anyone popped open a 2010? I would be very interested in another take on that wine and I’m a bit reluctant to commit infanticide. But if anyone out there wants to assuage their guilt for committing this crime by passing along the results…I’m all ears.
I had 2 bottles of the 2010 Altagracia at Tarbell’s in Phoenix on Tuesday night, and this wine was exceptional. I preferred it over both the 2010 Forman and 2010 Shafer One Point Five.
