🄶 Apollo's Praise - The Finger Lakes Hottest New Winery! WE DID IT the BD15 Exclusive 'LoveJoy' Exists!

I haven’t tried much from the Finger Lakes, so I had to get the Fly Me to the Moon offer. This was the purchase that triggered a fraud alert on my credit card, but it looks like it went through after I confirmed it was actually me. Congratulations on the new brand, and I’m eager to try your inaugural vintage!

In for 1, 3, and 4. Have liked the Red Newt Knoll rieslings I’ve had, and the Lovejoy blend intrigues me.

I always buy one newbie and since you are from New York, you’re it. BUT your ecommerce solution is having a nervous breakdown and I can’t complete the order because it craps out before I insert the credit card data. :frowning:

Weird - let me shoot you a message to try and sort it out!

Manually typing without autofill solved the problem.

Any chance you can give us a vintage report on 2023. I was reading about the frost impact and was wondering how you mitigated and have been impacted.

Went to bed last night assuming things were winding down, but boy was I wrong!

So let me just say thank you to:

  • @LeeS - That double mag of RosĆ© is going to be a hoot :owl:
  • @Phil_L - Going deep on everything Knoll related!
  • @MattStegman - Confirmed that the order went through! You’ll be getting a great taste of the Finger Lakes across this pack, the only ā€˜classic’ grape here not represented in the set would be Blaufrankisch.
  • @M1a_U - Consider yourself honorary Glee Club - I mean, you did get the spring shipment + another 6 bottles for autumn!

And also a special shoutout to the amazing @Jason_L who both helped out with the LoveJoy ordering, but in particular complimented my Jay-Z gif at the top. Have you seen the Stereophonic offers?! For him to compliment that is like Questlove complimenting your drumming!!

Awesome. And I should say for anyone else that, if you are trying to order and it seems to get hung up, for a handful of people this has been the issue. I’m not sure what combination of web browser + autofill + payment method causes the glitch, but typing in manually has solved it every time.

Thanks for your patience, in any case. By BD16 (really, by next month) we’ll be launching a full website. This was just to get us through BD15

In short, it went from a nightmare to a dream. In long…

Ooof, yes. The frost. We had just purchased Lahoma Vineyard a month beforehand, probably the single biggest ā€˜business’ moment of our lives, and then on May 18th the region got hammered with the first spring frost in a generation or more. We got down to 26F in some spots, with shoots that were several inches out. We lost about 60% of our crop as a result.

But we persevered and embraced it! On the landing page for our website is still the photo I took that morning, beautiful as it is terrible. And we fought through the growing season even though we knew we were going to be taking a huge ā€˜L’ for year one - what else can you do?

So that is the story on quantity. But the vintage itself from a quality perspective? Looks like it is going to be a stunner. Summer was rainy, but September through November were cool and so dry and sunny we entered drought classification. Sunny days and crisp nights are the recipe for incredibly aromatic and well structured Rieslings and Cab Francs, it is almost unbelievable.

So a nightmare of a first vintage, but then a dream. You only get to make your first impression once, and I’m really happy the 2023s will be our calling card to the vinous world.

P.S. For those thinking of us as a region that is cold/frost prone - the Finger Lakes isn’t prone to spring frost at all. There is a reason people had to go back to the 1960s for a similar event. This comes as a surprise to many, but the whole point of the lakes is they keep things so cold that bud break is delayed past frost threat. This was a freak event.

Rallied this morning and ordered the Startin’ Something pack. Me, my husband and my brother are all winemakers - looking forward to trying something outside of our AVAs :). Best of luck to you guys!

Fell into the Lovejoy this am

We understand (and appreciate!) that - the two of us are constantly most excited to try wines from outside our own region to see what is going on :star_struck:

Thanks!

Woke up this morning and ordered the Starting Something pack. I’m happy to be in at the beginning. I’ve been a Red Newt purchaser the past few Berserker days.

Glad to have you from the start! If you liked the Red Newt wines I hope you’ll very much enjoy these :hugs:

Don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know!

Looking forward to this! I’m not a chardonnay drinker in general (unless it’s got bubbles) but am interested in the LoveJoy blend.

And in this, we agree entirely. Which likely bodes well for you with the sort of blend we’ll be coming up with. It certainly won’t be a chardonnay in sheep’s clothing :champagne:
