Anyone use Global Entry Program?

They sent me an email - this was this past December - for an expiration/renewal coming due in May. The email said that as long as I applied for a renewal before the expiration of my existing Global Entry, if my renewal wasn’t processed before the expiration, the (expired) Global Entry would remain in force until my renewal applic was processed, up to one year.

In fact, the renewal was not processed before the expiration. And I then travelled internationally at least twice on the “expired” Global Entry - and each time it continued to work, no problem. (They did seem to “deactivate”/not honor my “trusted traveller”/PreCheck status (or whatever that is called), allowing expedited security lines on US departures however.)

My Global Entry applic was then finally approved around July/August (w/ the trusted traveller/PreCheck then automatically reinstated). The Global Entry website/your account gives your expiration date & application status, etc.

Yeah, right now I’m traveling domestic so just need PreCheck (I have Clear), as I hate having to take shoes off/laptop out and the lines are longer. Yes, I know, first world problems…

Yes during COVID. Everything expired on me and I didn’t even think about it when I started flying again - GlobalEntry, TSA Precheck, etc. It was a pain. Luckily my CLEAR didn’t expire. Now I have the expiration dates on a tickler.

My Global Entry was expiring in March 2025. I renewed on the website and was approved within a day. The expiration is in March, so not penalized for early renewal. My new GE card arrived a week later, and is headed to my sock drawer, along with unused credit cards.

FYI, if you travel back to the states from Canada, bring the card with you so you can bypass the regular line.

The new cost is $120. If you have the right credit card, you can expect a $100 rebate.

Mine expired last month; took one week to renew. No interview needed.

I forgot to mention my renewal was accepted pretty rapidly (a few weeks ago now), and I got a new land crossing card in the mail, no interviews required. But I did take the time to add the next allowed renewal date into my calendar…

If/when you link up the Global Entry card with your passport, you don’t necessarily need the card. At least you don’t at JFK terminal 4.

at the airport for sure, saved us one time. I don’t think it works for SENTRI lanes for land entry to the US.

I’ve entered the US with Global Entry over 500 times through very many airports and I’ve never used the card.

You never need the card. For the nervous types reading, you still don’t need the card when you enter back into the US from your trip.

Card id is for land crossing only, back from Canada or Mexico. Maybe ship too?

The newest machines (not the ones that do straight facial rec, the ones newer than those) are awesome, you dont even stop to look at them, they ID your face before you even get to it. MIA just got them.

I don’t recall how/when i linked my Global Entry card to my passport. At JFK, i go to the Global Entry area, put my passport into the machine, and that machine scans my face. Then good to go. No experience with GE at any other US airports nor any sea/land crossings.

Last time I arrived at JFK (Oct’24), no need to place passport on machine. Still have to look straight into the machine and it was quick facial recognition from then on.

The new ones in MIA scan you while walking towards it. Awesomeness.

Same in Los Angeles.

Looking forward to it (MIA in May).

Yep. When we came back from Brazil through JFK this September I barely even glanced at the machine before it approved me for entry. What a breeze!

I used the Global Entry app.
As soon as I land, I open the app and take a selfie.
Bypass the GE kiosk and go to the mobile app line (no line!) and literally walk thru…the guy just nods… :joy:

My wife applied for GE last week. 2 days later it was conditionally approved pending interview. She had the interview at about 1pm today (yes Sunday). Her full approval was done at 3 pm and she can start using her TTP number immediately. That’s pretty efficient!

My kids applications also last week have not moved yet however.

I’ve had it for years because I use to travel internationally for work. Finally got around to getting the whole family on onboard.
