Red rock, gravelly meadow, volcanic hill were given to me by a generous friend in magnum. I have no history with theses wines.
Had the Volcanic Hill in June 2011, so it’s been a while. But wow.
I’ve had at least 25 different California cabs from 1982 (birth year), and the Diamond Hill Volcanic Hill is definitely one of the best I’ve had. I suspect the others are just as delicious.
Had the gravelly meadow about two months ago. It was great.
Great to hear guys. Thanks.
Someone (HDH?) just offered 3L bottles of 2 of these. I was tempted.
Just attended a 12 year vertical tasting of Volcanic Hill (76’ to 87’). Will post notes but haven’t had a chance yet. Suffice to say they were stunning.
Yes - they are all lovely. The 82 GM being my favorite of the trio - but that is a default for me. Assuming good provenance I think you will be pleased.
I had a '81 back in November that was really good. Still have a 83 and 86, one of which I may be popping this weekend.

Dusty, Would love to see your 82 notes when you post or if you put them in CT I will see them.
Loren,
Thanks for feedback.
Even though in magnums, I was not planning on decanting unless you both think differently.
Al’s wines do not throw a ton of sediment, so it is not required for that reason. But the wines do benefit from air. You will be surprised how youthful they are. The Volcanic Hill particularly.
