Any deals on Canlis' list?

Wife and I are going for dinner for a birthday tomorrow night at Canlis here in Seattle.

Was wondering if anyone see any good ‘deals/steals’ on their list?

I’m not paying, so I shouldn’t pick something too outrageous.

Thank U!

Are you kidding? This is why we buy and store wine. Why would you pay the premium anyway when you don’t have to? If you have any great wine just bring your own and pay the corkage…you’ll save a mint.

Ok Steve… i’ll just drop by your cellar first? flirtysmile flirtysmile

Helpful, Saxon…

Mark - in general, no, their markup is high. Steve’s right in that if you have a wine you’d like to try that you think will go well with t he food, bring it and pay corkage. However, if you’ve just started collecting or for some reason don’t have a wine you want to bring the question becomes what would you like to drink? What’s your budget? They do ask (or used to) that you not bring a wine on their list. But it’s a HUGE list and to pick one or a few we need to know a bit more.

Canlis and Wild Ginger are probably the only two restaurants in our town that are cellaring wines and presenting compelling lists. The Canlis list is not cheap, but I am of the mind to splurge and get something great from their list. Yeah, they are corkage friendly too, so buy a bottle and bring a bottle is my usual.

Canlis actually has some good deals on burgs if you want to splurge a little. 04 Dauvissat Les Clos; 02 Dujac Combottes; 02 Truchot CdlR; 01 Dujac Gruenchers; 06 Gouges Les St Georges.

Then, of course, the 88 krug…
