I love her wines but I think I am officially priced out…
I just made the list after a long time away. Prices are a bit of a shock (but probably shouldn’t be). Recently drank a 2017 Ceras PN, which I’d just bought at a local shop known for generous markups, for $125.
I thought that the Ceras was very good. Drank it after two hours in the decanter, with a baked salmon and hazelnut dish. Definitely on the bigger side of Pinot but still tasted like Oregon Pinot to me. It was not as popular with our friends as the 2018 Bevan Ontogeny, which I also wanted to try, but I doubt many people will cross shop the two bottles.
The current release Ceras is $125 now. Makes the markup to get to Antikythera a little less gasp-inducing, but still for me means picking between Ceras and Dujac or Barthod village wines, and Antikythera and some of their 1er crus. My wife would struggle with that choice but Barthod 1er is the easy choice for me
The Antikythera I had a few years back was good, but I remember it being a very big wine. Are they still that huge style?
Called into Antica Terra yesterday and spoke with Ingrid, inquiring about the differences between the 2018 and 2019 Antikythera. She was very helpful and mentioned she thinks the 2019 has a little extra complexity than in the prior vintage. Last year Antikythera was $150 and Aequorin was $125. I think Ingrid also said the pricing has have been level over the last five years. Seems like a fair increase with the increasing cost of materials, supplies and labor.
I love the wine, but I will have to think on this purchase for a bit.
its still pretty big.
I’m priced out.
In the past Antica-Terra was a great alternative to more expensive French Burgundies, but now the gap is narrowing. It is still amazing quality wine, but the high critic ratings and increasing material costs led to this, I think.
Antica Terra just received some glowing reviews from Josh Raynolds on their 2019 lineup (minus Antikythera). Has anyone stopped by recently and tried the 2019 Antikythera? They ship in March, very excited!
