Another Q by Peter Chang Wine Dinner in Bethesda

We got together again for a wine dinner at Q by Peter Chang. Small group (7) this time with some new faces. Nice to meet Sarah. All the wines were fine and the food, of course, was wonderful.
2007 Taittinger CdC - Fun to compare the two CdC. The two couldn’t be any different. This wine had a citrus nose followed by a lemon and cream palate. Medium to light body. A short finish (93)

2008 Taittinger CdC - Much bigger nose of toast and yeast. Palate very full bodied showing nuts, saline, melon and lemon. Longer finish. A real treat and thanks for the opportunity. I see I have one in my cellar. It can sit longer. (95+)

2008 Champagne Diot Legras Grand Cru VV - Very different than the other two. Fine bubbles. Light gardenia nose. Palate was light body showing sweeter than the other two with ripe apple and pear. Short finish (92)

2015 Peter Michael Chardonnay La Carriere - My contribution. Big nose and big wine. Palate of stone fruit and pineapple but a bit overpowered by the oak in my opinion. Of the PM Chardonnays, I find the oak dominance prominent with this cuvee. Long finish. (92)

2015 Michel Chevre Clos de l’Ecotard Saumer Blanc - a nice precise Chenin. Light nose of melon with a palate of grapefruit and apple. I think a bit more acidity would make this even more wonderful. (93)

1999 Robert Chevillon NSG Les Perrieres - My WOTN. Nice nose of cherries which showed on the palate, too. So many different flavors going on from the cherry fruit to mushrooms, plums, tobacco, leather, etc… So good. Loved this wine. (97)

2017 Robert Chevillon NSG Les Vaucrains - Maybe should have had a longer decant - this was just PnP. Started out very primary with dark black fruit. Full body with nice acidity and tannins. Got better as the evening progressed. (94)

2010 Jadot NSG Les Boudots - Another PnP which could have benefited from a longer decant. A bit chunky with dark red fruit and spiciness on the palate. (92)

2015 Patricia Green Pinot Noir Weber Vineyard - Another bottle I brought. It was a surprise to many of the Burgundy fans at the table. This showed extremely well. I did arrive early and opened this up right away. A translucent ruby color. A lot of moss and earth and mushrooms with this one. Beautiful wine (96)

2018 Zilliken Rausch Kabinett - I’m not a fan of Zilliken. 20 years ago I loved it but I find it now to be one dimensional. I don’t know what occurred with them. Typical riesling fruit with not much acidity to carry it. (88)

2011 JJ Prum Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spatlese - Some found this wine cloying, I didn’t find it too sweet for a Spatlese but it could use a better balance. The sweetness of this and the following wine helped counter the spiciness of the food for the course (it was spicy hot!). Showed some peach notes with a little gasoline on the finish. (92)

2016 JJ Prum Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spatlese - I don’t remember this one too well. Had a very similar profile to the other Prum but a bit less sweet and maybe more melon notes. (91).

2019 Falkenstein Meyer Nepal - I’ve had this wine several times and along with the Gisela my favorites from this producer. Grippy wine with lots of citrus and yellow fruit to it. Very complex and I kept going back to it. Love this wine! (96)

Looks woderful! And I love Peter Chang’s food.

That’s a heck of a lineup. Wow.

Love that Meyer Nepal and have a bunch of it, including a mag. Thanks for the update on it. Sadly, I’ve opened all my '99 Chevillons - glad to hear yours was a real winner.

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a wine dinner where everyone came two-fisted, that’s a bit rough for us oldsters. Well done!

Not surprised. Weber is maybe my favorite PG and I’m surprised many a Burg lover in our tasting group with PG’s (and Goodfellow).
