Anguilla Recs?

We had an amazing lunch on our last visit. The snapper meuniere is especially good.

We’re just back from our latest trip. Stayed at the Frangipani again. Always friendly and excellent. A few restaurant notes:

  • On Sunday, our first night, we went to Sharky’s. Our first time there. It was super busy since a lot of places are closed on Sunday, and they have a good soul singer that night. There was a fair bit of a wait beyond our reservation time, but once we sat the food and service were excellent. In particular, my grilled whole snapper was succulent and nearly perfect. So much of the fish at so many places is overcooked, so if you can get a whole fish, it’s well worth it.
  • One revelation was our first visit to Hibernia. (Unfortunately we heard that it is supposed to be closing in May after decades, so if you can get there this year you should.) A pretty remarkable little hideaway decorated with the owner’s collection of Asian art, with a lovely wine list and very well-prepared Asian-inflected food. It’s a shame that this will probably be our only visit.
  • Ben’s Pit Stop was again a nice visit, and worth the trip. Although it is funny eating boeuf bourguignon in a Caribbean shack.
  • Straw Hat at Frangipani, where we were staying, is a lovely setting, especially for sunset. The food is decent, but not great.
  • We did Blanchard’s, both at the Beach Shack during the day and in the restaurant at night. The beach shack is perfect for a quick and good lunch. The dinner menu is a little up and down, but the pork shank was really excellent.
  • Jacala was again very pleasant and very good.
  • One to avoid based on our experience was Veya. Really nothing was very good. Mushy lobster, some okay apps, decent wine list. Very spotty service. Pass.

I’ve been home 24 hours and I’m ready to go back.
