Alex MacDonald spent a couple days in town en route to the Auburn-Ole Miss game last weekend. After attending a Nashville Wine Auction event and sharing the 2009 MacDonald Cabernet, last Sunday we got together to drink a few more wines. In the order tasted…
2012 Bedrock Under The Wire - Pink sparkler…nice acidity and strawberry notes. I’m not much for this style of wine, but others really liked it.
2009 Mondavi To Kalon Fume Blanc - Light yellow in color…good acidity here too with citrus and lemon notes…enjoyed the finish.
2009 Bedrock Heirloom - Light cherries and tannins…most added “young”…very nice…crowdpleaser that went well with the pizza.
2011 Rudius Cabernet - Decanted and poured…medium red color…some cherry and vanilla notes…very smooth with just a touch of “fizz”…nice finish. I’ve had a handful of 2011 Napa Cabernet…this one ranks towards the top of the list.
2006/7 Soter - I don’t recall if this was decanted or not…dark…great nose of a dark fruit medley and cocoa…the wine is so smooth and the finish goes on and on. Glad I loaded up after Justin W. and I tasted with Roy Piper in July. A fun and special wine.
2008 Greer Cabernet - Excited to try as the 2010 I had early this year is in my top 10 WOTY list. Medium dark color…big fruit on the nose with lively cherry notes and spice…lush…soft tannins…long finish.
2012 MacDonald Cabernet - Alex spoiled us by hauling a bottle cross country. This wine got a quick decant and was open for business…medium dark…bountiful and lush with red and dark cherries, vanilla and just a hint of leather…great mouthfeel and finish, and the tannins are barely present for a young wine. This will be a real treat to taste for anyone that gets to visit with Alex and Graeme in the coming year.
