I can’t drink for a few months for medical reasons, so when we agreed to join Leo Frokic and a few others at Barbetta for a final dinner at the restaurant after the owner passed at age 96, I knew that I might be in trouble. When the 2008 Jadot Grandes Echaezaux showed up (I assume from Leo), I knew that I needed a half-ounce waiver. The War Department agreed. and it was a perfect pairing with calves liver and onions. Definitely not my normal wine style, but the delicacy of the wine was a great pairing with the meal. Would not have been good with steer liver, but excellent with calves liver. Just thought I would mention it. No comment on the other wines, and I only tried the Grandes Ech. The nose on the Burlotto was excellent. The War Department loved the 2002 Comtes.
