Certainly my wine of the year to date. Beautiful deep burnished gold, great acidity. Notes of orange, orange zest, dried apricot, caramel and spice. Finish is in waves and lasts several minutes. 99

Nice… this triggered an immediate salivation response. I wonder if anyone has done a tasting of legendary '01 stickies. You could throw this in there with Yquem and Donnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Eiswein.

Had the Muller-Catoir Mussbacher Eselshaut Rieslaner TBA a few months ago.

I had a glass of this and it was fantastic. I thought it had a gingerbread not to it, like a touch of spicy brioche that was really unusual. Great wine.

A second bottle. Absolutely glorious. Had a little Rogue River Blue left over expecting the match to be amazing. It was not. So we sipped the rest by itself; and it continued to improve. I have had some really great dessert wines this year; none came close.

KP’s father along with Hans-Günther Schwarz were the Rieslaner experts. I have so many great 90s Rieslaners. 2001 was KP’s first vintage but I would guess his dad still had a hand in the Rieslaner : )

Can you imagine 2001 being your first vintage!

I remember the bottle Mark served on patio last year, insanely good. I believe at the time someone said that Julia (Klaus-Peter’s wife) studied under Hans-Günther Schwarz? And that she was a strong proponent of Rieslaner and Scheurebe.

Yes this is correct.

Is there a soil type or microclimate where it would make sense to plant Rieslaner over Riesling?
