Enjoyed a few bottles this week. I liked the Chave but was expecting/hoping for a bit more. I know nothing of Pelavarga – was something I picked up at a LWS tasting a couple months ago. I really enjoy aged Ridge PS.
- 2010 Ridge Petite Sirah Lytton Estate - USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley (11/28/2024)
Very dark purple color. A restrained nose, just a hint of plum with vanilla. Full bodied, still some dusty tannin but mild. Medium acid with herbs, oak, blackberry on the palate. This is a solid 14 year old wine. Doubt it will improve much. - 2021 Giovanni Sordo Verduno Pelaverga - Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Verduno Pelaverga (11/25/2024)
Light red color. Cranberry, strawberry and plum with a hint of white pepper on the nose. Light bodied wine with medium plus acid. Cherries and strawberries with the faintest amount of green pepper on the palate. Gulpable. Paired with chicken parmesan. - 2014 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage (11/23/2024)
Cherry and raspberry with a hint of leather on the nose. Maybe a little iodine. Full bodied wine with iron and meat on the palate. The flavors seem primary and young. This is an enjoyable bottle but by no means is it blowing me away. Paired with beef rib roast.
