Last night after the interesting tasting at Susan’s, we stopped at Andiamo! for dinner. We were seated at our usual table, but had to wait a bit for menus, since they were in the process of putting updated wine lists in. When we got the menus, we decided on a Barbera to start; and to share a Caesar Salad, followed by a shared small white pizza for appetizers. We ordered a 2005 Marchesi di Gresy Barbera d’Asti, when it came it was a 2006; Carollee tasted it, declared it ok and it was poured. It was bright fruit, good acidity, and a rich fruity medium long finish and very good with both the salad and the very tasty white pizza, with a rich combination of fontina, asiago, & mozzarella cheeses, grilled onions, and pancetta.
While enjoying the pizza, we decided on our mains - Carollee, spicy shrimp in tomato cream on fettucine, while I had their crispy duck legs with garlic mashed potatoes, roasted turnips, & spinach. We then had a 2005 Prodduttori di Barbaresco Normale - balanced bright red & black fruit, little hard tannins, and a long rich fruity finish. It was very enjoyable with both our dishes.
Then we wanted a good espresso with a shared cookie plate for dessert. Alas, their espresso machine was broken, so we settle for 375ml of a nice 2000 Badia á Coltibuono Vin Santo - rich caramelized fruit and very good with the cookies, probably better than the espresso would have been. We then went home to watch the cold, rainy TdF stage of yesterday.
