About a week ago, board member PeterH posted: “I’ve been drinking Soter Pinots from the time his flagship was the Beacon Hill. His newer wines from his own vineyard on Mineral Ridge are more supple and approachable when young. I’d place them about midway on the AFWE–Ripe and Heady scale.” I find that kind of useful.
So reading this, I was wondering if anyone has thought of developing an AFWE scale. (Similar to Todd’s idea of wine badges last year). But in this case, it would be used to describe a wine, not a board member. Could be a 1 to 5 scale, 1 to 10, whatever. So in the example above, Soter would be AFWE 3 (1-5 scale). Of course it would be subjective, one person’s 4 might be another’s 6, but I think the idea has some merit. Any thoughts??
I like the badge idea. Something a proud AFWEer can stick on their forehead, perhaps?
Good idea to fill time, like discussing the pro and con on points.
I think it would be more useful describing a wine board member than wine.
I love the idea, but it is so relative and subjective. And the gift/affliction seems to progress (for me) over time. Some of the tweener wines that I could drink and enjoy a couple of years ago, I loathe today.
I think we could rate how white our socks are on a scale of “Mr. Clean” to “Mudbrawl”.
