Americas Top 101 Wineries

For your comic relief.

It was some comic relief! Breathtaking pictures of Peay and Hirsch vineyards though and there were numerous wineries that belong on that list. I have no issue with their #1 pick. It looks like they are trying to be too PC; let’s include a little bit of every state.

hmmm…i don’t get this list either. this list is not about the wine, vineyard or winery itself…

Completely random list. Some interesting wines, some interesting wineries, some interesting projects, and “best” is an interesting choice of words.

Actually not too bad. Lot of wineries that I follow and support. I was in philly recently and had a local Cabernet franc that was pretty darn good, had no idea that they were making drinkable wines that far east and north! I need to branch out further.

Top 10, 20, 50, 100 lists never satisfy everyone - in fact it seems more disagree than agree. For my tastes there are a fair number of top wineries in here - but also a good number that leave me scratching my head. To me this list seems a lot like the WS WOTY list where the top 10-20 are usually solid and the rest seem rather random.

I’m not going to nit pick the list too much but Andrew Will doesn’t make wine, Chris Camarda does.
Andrew is his nephew and and Will is his son.

This list has not only pursued and found balance, but they have achieved a perfect equilibrium, amazing.

Balance between great wineries and OK. How do you list top wineries and leave out Schrader? But leave in Freemark Abbey and Peachy Canyon?

I agree that a lot of my favorites are there but it is a completely random list.

As lists go, I’m fine with this.

I thought it was a really fun list. Of course many obvious wineries were left off, from both coasts. But I applaud them for mixing things up and including a little from Texas, Michigan and Colorado.

Agree, as these things go it doesn’t seem bad to me at all. Or maybe I’m just happy to see Massican, Matthiasson and Lioco on there…

Obviously if they weren’t numbered, it would less jarring.

Although I have never had Sandhi or Woodward Canyon, it seems like they came up with a very good and creative top 10. But picking wineries with only a few vintages under their belt seems a little silly.

Just east of philly are some decent wineries. And a few up north. For whatever reason, CF does well there. Couple of Jersey threads

Well, there were about 20-25 I did agree with but anything from Virginia, Maryland, or Texas. No thanks. Had their wines from all of these wineries listed and they weren’t good. Ridge the best winery in the US? Many would argue that point. Too geographically inclusive for me.

Sandhi wines are really quite good. Very Burgundian. It is Rajat Parr’s project.

Thanks for the info. I am aware of the and Rajat’s involvement but when I look name of folks that have been producing top tier wines for decades, I would rank them higher. But its all good. Seems like they got pretty diverse in California. Oregon not as much.

Jason, I had a couple of the Sandhi wines this past weekend, the S and B pinot was strong.

BTW, who is the guy in the Copain photo? Never met him–it ain’t Wells.

Mr Kurtzman, that was a funny post you made there.

Hahaha…this looks a list of the 101 wineries the writer…knows!
