American Barbera

I would have agreed with these last couple posts if it hadn’t been for the Bedrock Shake Ridge Barbera. that wine has changed my mind about American Barbera. The EWCY! Barbdawg backed it up. im gonna have to rethink American Barbera after those two. I’m also gonna have to try to bid on that Bedrock Shake Ridge every time I see it on winebid.

That Bedrock Barbera is quiet nice.

I think the OP is looking for the joy of the journey.
Having said that the Bedrock and the Restoration Vineyard one I referenced above are the two that stand out for great domestic examples.

Easton makes two. I’ve had one of them (can’t remember which…)

It was definitely solid. I enjoyed it.

The thing is, though, Vietti, Giacosa, etc, are already so affordable.

Go to Cellartracker, search Barbera United States and summarize by producer for a list of larger producers. I have a personal affinity for Seghesio, which is inexpensive and palatable but not great. We were introduced to it in 1998 a Cal/Ital varieties trade show in San Francisco and spent some time with the Seghesio head of marketing discussing marketing, strategy, winemaking and pother stuff. Palmina is another target. IIRC, one of the owners is Luciano Sandrone’s god daughter. They specialize in Italian varieties and all those that I have had tasted like the grape was “supposed” to taste, so if your wife likes the taste of Barbera, go for Palmina.
