Our Grateful Palate Representative brought in two wines to taste, “Amaze” Mourvedre and “Amazed” Red, (50% Mourvedre, 50% Carignan). It’s a new venture involving Chris Ringland and Douglas Danielak, from a 118 year old vineyard in Antioch and that is Antioch, California. Both are very small production with a price point in the 35 to 40 dollar range. Both are high in alcohol, 16.5 and showed it. The Mourvedre had some good spicy fruit after the alcohol and tannins passed, with a lingering finish. The blend was more subdued with a smokey mid palate and a shorter finish. (I have a poor palate, requiring heartier, fruit forward wines, much like what Ringland produces.) Not much of the wine is made and I don’t know if there is much of it around. Has anybody else heard of or tasted these wines?
Kinda didn’t think it well known. Sooo, now Carrie, (Wicked witch of the west) and I are tasting, well, drinking a 2006 Raptor Ridge Reserve Pinot Noir. Yum! If only 2007 vintage from Oregon could be this robust.
it can’t be and it isn’t so enjoy that 06 Raptor Ridge.
So far you are right. The couple I’ve tried are very austere. The 07 Sineann Schindler was pretty close.
everyone i have communicated with told me 07 is a long laydown and eventually a will be OR take on Burgundy. key is if the producer picked after Autumn’s rains, grapes taken before yield really austere wine…
