Having a 1986 Montelena and a 1989 Cayron Gigondas tonight to celebrate the opening of our second store…very excited to drink them and will report more later…
Congrats on the store, Matt. Look forward to reading about that Montelena.
TNs:
1989 Cayron Gigondas - still fairly tannic but it doesn’t appear there is enough fruit left to offset the tannin left in place. This wine is dry, dry dry…that being said, it did loosen up after about 30 min in the decanter but I would say it was just ok - but still thought it was a fun wine.
1989 Montelena Cabernet - now this was a different story - this wine still has a ton of life left in it - the tannins are starting to mellow out and there is still an enormous amount of fruit left…the color was dark enough that people could mistaken it for a Cali Cab bottled at the turn of the century…super tasty and smooth as silk this is a very special wine and extremely enjoyable. Just sad I only have one left but plan on keeping it at least 5 more years!
Sherri - thank you!
