Which one is from Kevin Harvey? Which one is from Gary Farrell? Are there not enough words out there to name all the wines without using names so similar?
I suspect you aren’t suffering from brand confusion and know very well which is which. In case I’m wrong, at least you can take comfort in knowing that Alesia is a thing of the past.
The names and label graphics are distinct enough from one another that I don’t see an issue here.
Good point Lew. I was concerned when I first saw “Alysian” but fortunately “Alesia” is not our primary label. In any case we let it slide since life is too short. Also, Gary Farrell produced my first Pinot “Wow” more than 20 years ago…
Alesia is where Ceaser pwnd the Gauls. Alysian is just some overworked RRV pinot. Not so confusing to me.
Burg drinker, correct? If one can keep straight the various Gros estates, Roumiers, Gaunouxs, Leclercs, Ligniers, Esmonins, Magniens, Moreys, etc I think one can keep from confusing Alesia and Alysian .
Wow… times have changed… no respect for Gary farrell?? The guy is every bit the pioneer that Burt Williams was, but he is revered for making similarly styled?
Thanks for ruining my joke with logic.
Er… similarly styled wines? The alysian pinots at least have ph’s in the 3.4ish- 3.5ish range, not standard in the russian river these days.
The Alysian Floodgates and Rochioli bottlings are very good.

Touche… LOL.
Lew,
As a Rhys lover, I would have figured that you knew the difference already. But, as Kevin said, the label has been discontinued.
(Btw - not sure if you are going to the lunch tomorrow, but I have to skip - wife and kids are sick).
Eric
I had the impression there is Alesia 2011 in the pipeline. But, yes, I knew, my question of which was which was tongue-in-cheek. I do think it is unfortunate that both names are so similar, but as Kevin mentioned, life is short.
Arcadian, Auddellsa, Acacia, Adelaida, Arista, Artesa, Amphora, Auteur . . .
1992 Davis Bynum Le Pinot is a lovely Allen-Rochioli pinot and is still drinking great. Farrell knows Pinot.

Pardon the newbie-ish question, but what’s a typical pH for RRV pinot?
Gary Farrell is absolutely killing it under his Alysian Label. I have had quite a few and the '07 & '08 Rochioli Allen are out of this world and the Cresta Chard is not to be missed. I will however admit that I cut my teeth on his wines working for his winery some time ago.
Corey- From what I have seen you post it seems we have similar tastes. We should get a Sonoma County offline going on.
I had a few at an industry tasting a while back. Definitely typical RRV cherry cola notes, but not terribly overdone. Those might actually straighten themselves out with time.
