Alert: Scam using Hearing Impaired service of Amex

Seems that the usual bastards who only want to buy Dom, Cristal, Ace of Spades and high end Hennessey with their stolen credit card numbers are back to their old tricks of using the services of AMEX and some phone companies to place fraudulent orders again. You will get a call from an operator saying that she is relaying info from a deaf card holder who is communicating with her by keyboard. Ooooh Gah, Oooooh Gah! Danger Will Robinson!

We NEVER accept those orders but an employee of ours just called to say that his neighborhood liquor store just got taken for over 5 large on that scam.

Be careful out there!

man this used to happen to us constantly when I did retail. They’d order a huge bulk of something via these relay servies but if you ask them too many questions they just hang up.

I now immediately ask the operator to get the FBI or the local bunko squad on the phone with us. The “card holder” usually disconnects stat!

I just hang up,

Happened on Thursday. We kept asking him if he was a robot and he got mad and hung up.

Here’s what I would say…

Um…since you are deaf…how about SENDING AN EMAIL!!!

Just got two in ten minutes, be careful out there…

Used to get a couple of these a day -

I immediately asked for a cashiers check - always gave them some exorbant figure and told them to recall after I’ve received the cashiers check -

I remember getting calls for people that would want to “buy out” the entire restaurant - while they were overseas - I would just reply that I needed a million dollar deposit - again as a cashiers check - then call back after I receive that -

Reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in a poor neighborhood - whenever we needed money we used to hit the “fancy” neighborhoods with our “UNICEF” cans -
