Added to Aubert List After Not Such a Long Wait

Received the following email today:

Dear Bradley Swallow,

Congratulations! After a very long and patient wait you have been officially moved from our Waiting List on to our Active Mailing List.

Our Spring 2009 wine allocations will be sent to you via e-mail on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. This notification will include your Customer ID and Password needed for ordering on our secure website. All allocations, tasting notes and ordering information can be accessed on our website.

This release is exclusively for our 2007 Ritchie Vineyard Sonoma Coast Chardonnay.

We appreciate and thank you for your interest in our wines.

Warmest regards,

Mark & Teresa Aubert

I think I signed up in the middle of last year. I would have to be crazy to pass on this $80 bottle of chard, right?

Thoughts?

Well…it is an $80 bottle of chard. Having said that, Aubert Ritchie is at the pinnacle of domestic chard for me. I have had three different vintages and they were all stunning.

I’m pretty sure I’ll order, as I have thoroughly enjoyed every Aubert I have had. Since I won’t know the size of my allocation until next week, I can only speculate as to how painful it’s going to be. [blackeye.gif]

Hmm… maybe I’ll email over there and see if he’ll make a special concession for a wait lister. (My niece was born in 07 and happens to be named Lauren, looking for a mag)

Let us know how that works out for ya.

I’m buying a lottery ticket as well - figure the odds are about the same.

We tried to get a mag of any chard, any vintage for Flannery Fest. I don’t think a response was ever sent.

Cha-ching!

Nice wines. Goofy prices. Lot’s of Pinots and Chards from California or else where for similar quality and much less money.

I didn’t think they allowed white wine within state lines.

Seriously, of all the wine I’ve sold to Texas, maaaaaybe 2 cs. were caucasian.

I liked Aubert a lot more when it was $55-$60. At $80 and $90 per (plus expensive shipping), I’ve chosen to spend my dollars elsewhere.

Yeah, I’m not too thrilled about the tariff, but I’ll give it a shot anyway. I haven’t received a mailer in about three weeks, so I have an itchy trigger finger.

I can’t think of another white wine I would put higher on my list than the Auberts, can’t think of any others of that quality at any price. Let’s name some names!

I think the Rhys and Peay offerings are #2 and #3 for me, and are less $$, but not “of similar quality”.

OK ya got me. I would put Rhys of better quality. Arcadian is definitely on that list as well. Need to try a Peay. I posted a note around here somewhere about a Hyde de Villaine that really turned my head. Tons of Chablis and other white Burgundy. It might have to do with the style of the wines. Aubert is the best at the richer styled Cali Chard but that sort of wine never merits $80 for me. There is tons of Kistler out there which I think is very close to Aubert but doesn’t have the hype anymore.

What does Marcassin RELEASE at?

I have been on the Rhys list only long enough to be offered some pinot. I am hoping for some chard from the 2007 vintage.

This year’s release (2004) was $130 for the Estate Chard, I’m not sure about the rest. I only know this because a friend ‘allowed’ me to buy a bottle from his allocation.

I was also sent an offer from Aubert for the first time this year - signed-up about 18 months ago. I was lucky enough to find a friend to take most of my allocation, but given my wife’s name (Lauren) and her love for Aubert, I have little choice but to grab a bottle or two.

Given RP’s scores (97-99 for the Lauren, 94-96 for the Ritchie) I’m surprised prices didn’t go up even more.

Aubert is a buy for me because kris & I love the style and we cannot locate the wines on the secondary market for a better price. Better wines at better prices? Depends on your taste. Rhys and Peay are dang good. Arcadian when it is good is damn good.

Hanzell makes glorious Chard, needs time sideways though.

I also got the email notifying me that I have an offer for the chard. I am really on the fence with this one. I don’t drink much chard, and it’s gotten relatively easy to find the pinot at cost in the secondary market, so I am having a hard time justifying splurging on $80/bottle chard to possibly get an allocation for pinot in the future.
