A Visit to Bodegas Roda - TN & Video

Had the opportunity to visit the Bodega in early July. Very interesting to see the state of the art facilities intermixing with the old underground cellars. Exact opposite to it’s next door neighbor Lopez de Heredia, tasted through all of their wines, as well as the olive oil. Here are my TN and also a video of my visit.

Bodegas Roda Sela 2012
An explosive aromatic bouquet featuring cherries, raspberries, plums, jasmines, leather, spices, and elegant vanilla. A mid bodied wine with cool red fruit flavors on entry, zippy fresh midpalate with licorice and dark chocolate that continue on to the moderate finish that exhibits creamy lactic notes, exotic spices, and fine grained tannins. A real delicious bargain given the price!

Bodegas Roda I 2007

This wine has always been 100% Tempranillo, except for the 1994 vintage, however this might change in the near future with a small amount of Graciano being added. Exotic aromas of dark cherries, blackberries, plums, lavender, cedar, incense, roasted meats, and Indian spices. Velvety mid bodied wine with sweet dark fruit flavors on entry, a balsamic midpalate with licorice and dark chocolate that continue on to the long lasting Indian spiced finish that also feature silky tannins, minerality, and creamy vanilla. Very clean and precise, a textural experience as well as delicious.

Bodegas Roda Cirsion 2010

A unique wine made entirely of Tempranillo, in certain years some grapes from certain plots exhibit more of a wine like flavor instead of fruit, therefore since the wine is “half made” already it only eight months in new French oak barrels. Voluptuous aromatic profile in this wine with blackberries, blueberries, plums, cacao, roasted coffee, violets, incense, and a lactic almost creamy note on the end that rounds it out. Silky on the palate, incredibly smooth, with sweet dark fruit flavors on entry, the midpalate is fresh with some balsamic notes, milk chocolate, and cherry cola. Velvety on the finish with long lasting Asian spices, sweet lactic notes, and weightless smooth tannins. This is quite powerful, precise, and round but it’s seamlessly light as air.
