Opened a 2001 California Syrah tonight. Complete with a $16.99 pricetag on the bottle. Not sure the source, maybe Winex or one of the big Cali retailers? After an unfortunate and unsuccessful battle with the cork, resolved with a strainer and a funnel, this is delicious Syrah. Still got some acidity, some fruit and some great smells that I’d expect from the Northern Rhone. Delicious bottle!!

A 1992 ESJ Syrah Durell Vineyard about 18 months ago was incredible and in no danger of falling off a cliff.
I still have two from my own stash and one that I got from Thor’s cellar.
I still have a bottle of the '01 Niersteiner Paterberg Spätlese that I got for $13.99 at Zachy’s in 2002.
