A surprisingly good 1969 Chanson Pere & Fils Beaune!

Having had a few 1969 Burgundies this past year (both GC and PC), found them to be very hit and miss. Several amazing wines, and several just oxidized and not very enjoyable. This weekend, had a 1969 Chanson Pere & Fils Beaune 1er that was surprisingly one of the better ones opened!

It had about 2cm ullage with a very firm cork. Color was a murky ruby red, with some bricking. On opening, had an aeromatic profile of subdued mints, cola and baked red fruits. The first taste was saddle leather, minerals and earth, opened up with some rhubarb, and an appealing nutty walnut component. Some of us drew parallels with a good white burgundy in terms of its minerality. No oxidation was noted, yet everything in balance! The more I savored this wine, the better it got, exceptionally nuanced and the WOTN!

If only we had more than one bottle . . . [berserker.gif]
